The digital signage system was designed to enhance communication across campus by delivering timely and engaging information through strategically placed displays. It provides students, faculty, and visitors with essential updates, including current time and date, weather conditions, campus announcements, event highlights, and promotional content. By addressing the fast-paced movement of people throughout the campus, the system ensures that important information is easily accessible at a glance. As digital displays become increasingly integral to modern environments, this solution offers a dynamic and adaptable platform that supports a wide range of informational and communication needs.
This project demonstrates a blend of creative and technical abilities, including motion design, visual communication, front-end development, GSAP-based animations, SVG integration, and backend connectivity through PHP and databases. It focuses on the increasing role of digital platforms in everyday environments, reinforcing that digital communication is now an essential, long-term component of modern spaces. The project also investigates contemporary approaches to digital advertising and real-time content delivery, aiming to create visually engaging and informative experiences for users.
I developed a unified and easily maintainable digital signage interface for Durham College, combining motion graphics with GSAP animations to bring elements such as weather updates, announcements, and promotional content to life. I was responsible for integrating the database to support live content updates, while leveraging existing PHP functionality to manage system operations. The final outcome is a clean, interactive display designed to efficiently communicate information across campus.
The digital signage experience was developed using a structured, modular layout that organizes content into distinct sections, including branded motion visuals, advertising spaces, live weather and date information, a scrolling update bar, and a curated news feed. Each component was carefully planned to ensure clarity, readability, and visual harmony, allowing users to quickly absorb information in a fast-moving environment.
Throughout the development process, I combined design thinking with technical implementation, using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and GSAP to create smooth, engaging animations and transitions. Incorporating backend integration and database connectivity introduced additional complexity, enabling real-time content updates while strengthening my problem-solving abilities and technical skill set.
